How to Cleanse an Object With Spells
The majority of magical practitioners cleanse their tools regularly. If you use a crystal or other object in a banishing ritual or to absorb negativity, of course it must be cleansed. Yet, many practitioners cleanse their other tools, as well. Just like dust and dirt in your home, magical tools and other objects become coated with magical energy that weighs them down. When the objects are weighed down, they don't work as effectively and should be cleansed. Cleansing can be done with one or all of the elements; use the element you feel most comfortable with or design a ritual with all four.

1
Set out your supplies on your altar or on a flat, sturdy surface. Choose a time and place that you will not be disturbed. A table in the attic, a flat rock outside or your bedroom floor in the middle of the night will all be just fine.
-
2
Pour cool water into one bowl and fill the other bowl about halfway with salt. These represent water and earth. Light the candle, white or any pastel color, and the incense. These represent fire and air. You may change the order that you set out your elements. This is just a guide.

3
Visualize what you are about to do as you set out your supplies. Picture the salt soaking in the energies to be cleansed, the water washing, the candle burning them and the incense smoke catching and wafting them away.
-
4
Sprinkle cleansing herbs over all four elements. Use lavender, peppermint or rosemary, or combine all three. Gather a large pinch in your fingers and make sure a little herb touches each element. Don't worry about the bits that fall around them.
-
5
Hold the object in your hands and picture why it needs to be cleansed. Has it just been used a lot and needs a magical scrubbing? Was it used for absorbing or cleansing negativity? Perhaps, it is an ordinary object that you want to consecrate or was handled by an angry or negative person. Make a clear picture.

6
Pass the object through the incense smoke and over the flame---hold the object high if it is flammable---sprinkle it with water, then salt. Imagine each element ridding the object of the unwanted energies in its own way. Again, change the order of the elements if desired.
-
7
Gently wipe the salt and water from the object, especially if it is metal. Hold it gently in your hands and picture the unwanted energy cracking and breaking away or floating away from the object's surface.
-
8
Set the object on the soft cloth in front of the elements until the incense burns down. All of the unwanted energy should be gone by then.

Tips & Warnings
Chant a rhyme or words that simply feel right as you perform each step. Remember: a spell isn't words, it is actions, words or intent gathered together to make needed changes.
