How to Start a Car With the New Chrysler Keys

Save

Many late-model vehicles include a new type of technology called wireless keys, smart keys or advanced keys. Chrysler calls the feature "Keyless Go." Using your wireless key may be difficult at first, but once you get used to it, you'll begin to appreciate it. Not only can you start the engine without inserting the key, you can also unlock the door by standing near it and pressing the door handle button.

  • Place your key in your pocket or in your Chrysler's cup holder. The keys communicate with the ignition via a wireless signal, As long as the key is somewhere in the vehicle, you should be fine.

  • Put your foot on the brake pedal, and push in on the ignition knob. Turn the knob forward, just like you would a key, to start the engine.

  • Push in the ignition knob and turn the knob backward to shut off the engine. Remember to bring your wireless key with you when you leave the vehicle.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the lithium battery in your wireless key is dead, you cannot start the engine using the normal procedure. Your wireless Chrysler key contains a emergency key. Slide away the latch on the bottom (near the panic button) to access the key. Pull the key out, and then squeeze the tabs on your ignition knob to remove it. Behind the ignition knob you will find a standard ignition keyhole; use the emergency key to start the engine.
