How to Wash Vinyl Blinds
Cleaning and maintaining blinds is a little more difficult than cleaning or maintaining traditional curtains. The very nature of the blind can make the task time-consuming and hard, especially when the blinds are still hung. Many people don't clean their blinds often or at all for this reason. Dusty blinds are not only unsightly but can cause allergic reactions and attract pests. Removing the blinds and working with them in a horizontal position can make washing vinyl blinds very easy. 1
Begin by removing the blinds from the window. Depending on the style of blind, this may include temporarily removing hardware or simply unhooking the blinds from a rail. Check the user manual for specific removal directions for your model of blinds.
-
2
Place the blinds in the bottom of a clean bathtub. The blinds should not be folded or bent, but lie flat in their natural extension. Be sure the blinds are in the open position so cleaning between the slats is possible.

3
Fill the bathtub with warm water until the blinds are completely covered. A few inches of water above the top of the blinds works best.
-
4
Add laundry detergent to the water and swish the water to dissolve. Although a biological cleaner works best, any type of laundry detergent can do the job.
-
5
Agitate the water with your hands to help loosen dust and dirt from between the slats of the blinds. Do this for a few minutes before allowing the blinds to soak for at least an hour.
-
6
Drain the water from the bathtub and refill it with cold water to rinse off the soap. This will help finish the cleaning process as well as give a shine to the vinyl. Empty the bathtub and allow the blinds to sit for a few minutes to reduce the amount of dripping water.
-
7
Use both hands to lift the blinds from the tub and carry them back to the window. Attach them to the window in their normal position. It is a good idea to lay an old bath towel underneath the blinds to catch any drips.
