How to Update a Kindle Account

Your Amazon Kindle device is linked to your Amazon.com user account, similar to a personalized user account on a computer. This account allows you to purchase books, newspaper and blog subscriptions and download them directly to your Kindle. The email address linked to your account is also used for communication purposes with Amazon. Your Kindle account is the same account that was used to purchase your Kindle. Amazon requires that you log into your account with your current email address and password to be able to make any changes.

Step 2

Select the hyperlinked section you wish to change in the Settings section of your account page. For example, select "Change Name, Email Address or Password." Amazon warns, "When updating your account information, you may be asked to copy the text from a picture in a text entry box (commonly know as a "captcha" screen). This extra task is one that only actual customers can perform accurately, and helps prevent automated programs from accessing features on Amazon.com." This step helps ensure the security of your personal information.
