How to Clean Grout Sealer Off Ceramic Tiles

Laying your own ceramic tiles is not a job for the faint of heart. It is a process that involves multiple steps and much care. Of course, it can also reduce the cost greatly, as only materials must be purchased. After the tile has been laid, a haze may begin to develop over the tiles as a result of the grout sealer. There is no need to panic. Removing the haze is the easiest part of the tile-laying process.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nylon brush
  • Mildly abrasive cleanser
  • Water
  • Cloth
  • Sponge
  • Stripper
  • Towel
  1. Step 1

Wet a stiff-bristled brush with water and shake out.

  2. Step 2

Apply a small amount of cleanser directly to the brush.

  3. Step 3

Scrub the affected tiles with the brush.

  4. Step 4

Wipe with a clean cloth to check for effectiveness. If the sealant was removed, dampen a cloth with water and wipe the area clean.

  5. Step 5

Apply a sealant stripper, which can be purchased at a home supply store, to a sponge and rub onto an inconspicous tile. Check for results after one hour. If no discoloration or other harm was caused to the tile, proceed.

  6. Step 6

Apply the stripper to the entire affected area with a sponge. Scrub with a brush and wipe away the remnants of the grout sealer with a clean cloth. Repeat until all the sealer has been removed.

  7. Step 7

Rinse the cleaned area with water. Dry with a clean towel.
