How to Configure a PC Controller for Rainbow Six

Tom Clancy's "Rainbox Six" defined a new generation of "hyper realistic" first-person-shooters when it was released in 1998. Its "planning" and "execution" phases had never been successfully combined in a first-person-shooter prior to its release and brought a new level of strategy to a genre dominated by fast-paced, run-and-gun-style action. Although playing with a keyboard and mouse is the default control method, it is possible to play with a PC gamepad.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your gamepad of choice to your PC. Consult the owner's manual to see which port your gamepad uses.

    • 2

Click on the Start Menu then "Control Panels." Select the "Joysticks and Gamepads" panel and check to make sure that your gamepad is recognized by the PC.

    • 3

Launch Rainbow Six and select the "options" menu. Navigate to the "keybindings" option.

    • 4

Select each key you'd like to bind to the gamepad and re-bind them one by one. Bind "move forward" to the "up" button on your gamepad's d-pad or analog stick, and so on down the list.

    • 5

Click "OK" to save your keybindings. Start a game to test your bindings and tweak any settings you might need to before proceeding.
