How to Troubleshoot a Howard Miller Clock
The Howard Miller company has been making clocks since 1926. Howard Miler himself was a German who was taught clock making by his father in the Black Forest. The company initially focused on chiming wall and mantel clocks, but also produced avante-garde clocks, which are collectible. Howard Miller is today well known as a grandfather clock maker and calls itself the "World's Largest Grandfather Clock Manufacturer."

1
Make sure the chime lever isn't in the silent position if the clock doesn't chime. Check for packing material that could clog the works. Check that the weights are in the correct position. They are labeled.
-
2
Check for packaging material if the clock doesn't run at all. Make sure you have removed the pendulum guide clip from the back of the clock.
-
-
3
Try re-starting the clock. Hold the pendulum, and move it towards the left. Let go, and the pendulum will swing and the clock should start.
-
4
Make sure the pendulum isn't hitting the weights or the chime rod if it keeps stopping.
-
5
Check that the clock is level.
-
6
Make sure the weights haven't come off the chain or pulley. Make sure the hands can move without any kind of interference.
-
7
Rotate the minute hand backwards 3-1/2 hours if you have problems turning the moon dial. The gears have probably become jammed.
-
8
Remove the minute hand, and adjust it if the clock chimes more than a minute before or after the time it's supposed to. Remove the nut that holds the hand. Use a small pair of pliers. The nut unscrews counterclockwise. Pull the hand straight off. Adjust the bushing on the back of the hand, and re-install the hand. Reset the time.
