How to Install a Used Diatomaceous Earth Pool Filter
Swimming pool maintenance can become very expensive when parts, such as the filter and pump, need to be replaced, for this reason, many people turn to using used swimming pool parts. The key in using a used diatomaceous earth filter is to ensure it is cleaned out and works properly. Diatomaceous earth filters (also referred to as DE filters) are responsible for filtering out the dirt from the water and then returns the clean water to the pool. - Owner's manual
- Pool hose
- Pool hose clamps

Clean out the used filter with a garden hose to ensure there is no left over diatomaceous earth from the previous user.

Disconnect power to the pool pump by unplugging the electrical cord.

Place the used DE pool filter between the pool pump and the pool return valve, which is located on the sidewall of the pool. The filter should be placed on level ground for maximum efficiency, use a leveling tool to ensure the filter is level.

Connect the used DE pool filter to the pool pump by connecting a pool hose from the pool pump outlet valve to the pool filter inlet valve. Use hose clamps to securely tighten the pool hose to the valves. For exact location of the valves, consult your owner's manual. The valves are also labeled on most models. Newer pump models have a connector that screws onto the pool pumps inlet valve, if your equipment has a connector, use a large wrench to tighten the pump to the filter.

Connect the used DE pool filter to the pool by using another piece of pool hose. Attach the pool hose to the outlet valve on the used pool filter to the pool return valve located on the side of the pool. Use a hose clamp on each end to tightly secure the hose.

Prime the pool system (pump and filter) per the owners manual, add the necessary chemicals, plug the pool pump back in and turn the system on to ensure your pool filter works properly.
