How to Change a Photo to Sepia

Sepia toned photos are very popular. They make current photos look older and classier. Sepia is a brown pigment, and a sepia photo is done in graduating shades of brown. It is simple to do online in a program that you do not even have to download or install. This makes it easy, fast and free to do from the comfort of your own home.

  1. Choosing Your Photo

      Open a web browser. You can choose any that you have, including Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Whichever one you normally use will work with this program.

      Type www.pixenate.com into your address bar. The Pixenate website will open.

      Look in the top left corner of the page. There is a button that says, "Choose your image to edit."

      Click on those words, then "browse." A window will pop up with files from your computer.

      Pick out the photo from your computer files that you would like to turn into a sepia photo. Once you have decided which photo to use, click on it. The window will close. Click on the "Upload Now" button, and your photo will appear on the Pixenate website.

    Working on Your Photo

      Click on "Show fun effects" on the left in the gray box. At this point, your photo should be on the main page. More icons will appear in the gray box.

      Click on the new icon in the bottom right corner of the gray box. It looks like a brown picture with a pink wand. When you hover your mouse over the icon, a box will appear that says, "Black & White/Sepia Tool."

      A preview will appear, showing your picture in sepia tones. If it shows up in black and white, just click on the "sepia" to change it to that tone.

      Click "Apply." This will change your main photo to the sepia color tone. It might take a moment.

      Right-click your mouse on the photo, and choose "Save photo as... ." This will allow you to choose a new file name and save the sepia photo onto your computer.
