How to Replace Tires on a Bandsaw

A bandsaw tire is a large piece of rubber that goes over the wheels. Tires are simply oversized rubber bands. The tires should be checked regularly. Old tires become worn, cracked or hardened. This can cause tracking problems and vibration.

  • New tires
  • Flat blade screwdriver
  • Safety glasses

      Unplug the saw for safety.

      Put on eye protection and gloves.

      Open the bandsaw doors.

      Remove the blade.

    • 5

      Check the tires. They should be smooth, have a crown in the center and be free of grooves. If not, replace the tires.

      Use a flat blade screwdriver to pry under the tire and slop the tire off the rim.

      Clean the wheel with acetone if the tires were glued on.

      Stretch the new tire evenly over the wheel.

  • Bandsaw blades are very sharp and are can inflict cuts and scratches. When you wrap the bandsaw blade, wear heavy gloves, long sleeve shirt, pants, shoes and safety glasses. Be very careful to keep the blade away from your face.
