1
Once you realize your credit cards are missing, use the toll free numbers located on the front of your monthly credit card bills to contact each individual credit card issuer and other creditors/establishments. Inform the customer service representative and ask for advice. The credit card companies will usually cancel your cards immediately, flag them for fraud, and reissue new cards.
-
2
Compose a letter to each individual credit card issuer and the three major credit bureaus (TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax), notifying them of your loss. Use certified mail so you will have a mailing record.

In addition to the letters, notify the customer service department of each individual credit bureau immediately (TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax) so they can place a fraud alert on your reports, which may help protect your credit. This should also prevent new fraudulent credit attempts made in your name.
-
4
File a police report. Ask for copies of the report for your records. This will help substantiate your loss should there be any future fraudulent use of the cards.
-
5
Read your homeowners policy and contact your insurance provider to see if your policy covers liability for credit card thefts.
