1
Use your favorite cake mix for the snowman cupcakes. White cake mix is ideal, but chocolate cake mix will work as well. The chocolate can represent the mud underneath the melting snowman.
-
2
Apply nonstick spray to the Wilton dimensions cupcake pan. Pour the cake mix into the cupcake molds. Bake the cupcakes according to the appropriate time on the recipe.
-
-
3
Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before adding the icing.
-
4
Add white icing to the bottom cupcake. Apply the white icing completely over the cupcake to resemble the snow.
-
5
Smooth out icing on the sides of the top half of the cupcake. Do not add icing to the very top of this cupcake. You will apply icing sugar later to the top of the cupcake.
-
6
Sit the top of the cupcake onto the bottom part of the cupcake. Set this aside while you prepare the melted snowman.
-
7
Separate the fondant into thirds. You may need to buy two containers of premade fondant if you are making several snowman cupcakes.
-
8
Roll out the fondant into small balls, around 1 to ½ inches in diameter to create the snowman's head.
-
9
Create another set of fondant balls that are ½ the size of the snowman's head to create his hat. Roll these balls into pointed shape that resembles a Hershey kiss.
-
10
Add orange food coloring paste to the rolled fondant. Use a knife to cut off small section of the fondant, and roll it into a long carrot-shape. Score the fondant with a knife to create the snowman's carrot nose.
-
11
Place a small round red candy on top of the snowman's head. Add the fondant Hershey-kiss shaped hats on top of the red candies.
-
12
Place 2 cups of powdered sugar into a bowl. Slowly add cold water until you have icing that you can easily spread. Do not make the icing too thin or it will be runny.
-
13
Spread the powdered sugar icing on top of the cupcake. Add the snowman's head to the white icing.
-
14
Use the black icing to add eyes to the snowman. Place small black dots in the white powdered sugar icing to resemble the snowman's buttons.
-
15
Allow the cupcakes to sit for 10 to 15 minutes.
