How to Store Deep Frying Oil

Deep frying produces crispy and tasty food, but there's often questions of what to do with the oil after making your fried chicken or French fries. Do not discard old oil, but save it for your next frying session in an even combination with fresh oil to aid in browning your food. Properly strained and stored, your deep frying oil will last nearly forever, giving you plenty of time before using it again. Keep track of the number of times you reuse your oil because all oil should be discarded after five uses or when it begins to develop an odor. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Wait for the oil to completely cool after use.

    • 2

Line the strainer with at least four layers of cheesecloth and place over the wide end of a funnel.

    • 3

Insert the narrow end of the funnel into the food container.

    • 4

Pour the oil through the cheesecloth-lined strainer into the container. Place the lid on the container and put a single rubber band around the neck of the bottle or jar to indicate one batch of used oil inside.

    • 5

Put the old oil container into the freezer for future use.

    • 6

Reuse the oil up to five times and do not heat old oil higher than 350 degrees to prevent a flash fire.

    • 7

Contact your local oil recycling facility for instructions on disposal of your oil after five uses.
