How to Make a Baby Towel Cake
Similar to a diaper cake, a towel cake is a common decoration at baby showers. Made of baby towels it serves a dual purpose as both a gift and form of décor, usually a centerpiece. Moms-to-be typically love these because they are cute and they can use all the items inside the design to help care for their new little one. Making a towel cake is fairly simple and leaves some room for creativity and personalization in the colors you choose and embellishments you add.
Things You'll Need
- 2 towels
- 2 hand towels
- 2 washcloths
- Decorative ribbon
- String
- Baby items

Take a white towel and lay it out on a flat surface, lengthwise, so the longest sides of the towel reach out left to right as you look at it. Smooth it down so the edges are all flat.

Fold the top of the towel in one quarter toward you. Fold the bottom of the towel up one quarter. Repeat again and fold each side (top and bottom) in one quarter. Then fold the towel in half in the same manner. Repeat with a second towel.

Stack the towels on top of one another. Start on one end and roll the towels tightly, smooth down the towels as you roll to prevent clumping or bunching up. Take a decorative ribbon and tie it tightly around the towel roll to hold the towels in place. Tie the ribbon into a bow of your choosing.

Repeat steps 1 through 3 using 2 hand towels. This will create the second layer of the towel cake.

Repeat steps 1 through 3 using two washcloths. This will create the third layer of the towel cake.

Stack the three layers on top of each other. Take a piece of string that matches the color of the towels and string it through all three layers of the cake have it poke out from both the top and bottom. Bring these two ends together at the back of the cake and tie them in a knot. This will help keep the cake together so it won't topple over as you move it.

Decorate the cake layers with baby items. You can use bath products, toys, or baby essentials such as pacifiers. Attach these baby items with double-sided tape or by using ribbon to tie them onto the ribbons around the layers.
