How to Remove Background Wallpaper From a Login Screen

Most people who have been using Microsoft Windows for a while are familiar with their login screen. In fact, a lot of people get bored with the default background wallpaper. However, you can customize your login screen background as you want and give your Windows a new refreshing look each time you login. Alternatively, you can also choose to leave your login background blank so the login screen loads a little faster. This can be done simply in a few minutes without any special software.

Instructions

    • 1

Restart your computer and log in using your administrator ID and password. The default ID is "administrator," and password is the one you provided during installation.

    • 2

Create a backup of your Registry file before you make any changes. Export the ".reg" file to a different disk so you can restore the Registry later if it's needed.

    • 3

Click "Start->Run," type in "regedit" in the search box and click "OK." This will open the Windows Registry, which contains all of the Windows settings and options.

    • 4

Navigate to "HKEY_USERS\Default\Control Panel\Desktop" in the Registry window. This is the location where background wallpaper settings and options are stored.

    • 5

Check the settings for the key "Wallpaper" and delete the value in the key. Make sure the value box is set to blank. Close the Registry window.

    • 6

Restart your system and you will notice that the background wallpaper for the login screen has been removed.
