How to Qualify for a Canadian Work Visa
Qualifying for a Canadian work visa virtually depends on one primary factor: the acquisition of a job from a Canadian employer. If you have a secured position with documents to prove your employment, you are qualified to apply. You also must prove the ability to prove your eligibility to hold the position you wish to hold in Canada. That is, you must be able to prove you are academically qualified and possess the skills needed to perform your incumbent position.

Get a job. You cannot qualify for a work permit without securing first a job from a Canadian employer. It is impossible to obtain a permit under the status "looking for employment." You will either have to find a job via distance communication--that is, the Internet, phone or mail. Otherwise, you will need to find a job while in Canada on a tourist visa. To apply for the work permit, however, you will need to return to your country. There is no "ineligible nationality" in concerns to a work visa; all those who secure a job, can provide proof of academic and skill set eligibility and apply through the proper application process are eligible to work in Canada.

Obtain both a formal letter of employment from your Canadian employer and a labor market and opinion form from the HRSDC (Human Resources and Social Development of Canada). This form will be filed by your employer, who then must send you a copy. You are not eligible to apply for a work visa until you have received this form.

Complete the application form. You must complete the application Form IMM 1295. You can find the form on the website of the Canadian Center of Immigration and Citizenship (CIC). It is located on the left hand column under the tab "Resources," in Application Forms and Guide. Place the form in an envelope along with the HRSDC letter, letter of employment, your passport (it must be your actual passport and not a copy) six passport photos and proof of payment of the $150 application fee. Fees can be paid online or through the Canadian embassy in your country.

Submit the application packet to the Canadian embassy in your country, or your nearest Canadian consulate general. Wait for your application to be reviewed. If the consulate or embassy deems you qualified for a Canadian work visa, you will either be asked to attend an additional interview (only in select cases) or you will be sent a letter of approval.
