Instructions

    • 1

Pull your hair back and form a tight ponytail. Hold the ponytail tightly in one hand.

    • 2

Hold a chopstick in your other hand and rest it atop the ponytail, horizontal to the ground. The chopstick should be close to your head, and centered above the ponytail.

    • 3

Wrap the ponytail around the chopstick once, pulling the end of the ponytail down so that it is pointing toward the ground.

    • 4

Twist the chopstick one time in a clockwise direction. It is normal for the ponytail to slide along the chopstick as you turn it, and this is fine, as long as you ensure that the ponytail does not fall off the end of the chopstick.

    • 5

Push the chopstick through the bun until an equal amount of chopstick is emerging from either side of the bun. This will create an appealing look, and also serve to anchor the bun in place.

    • 6

Add a second chopstick in a mirrored direction from the first chopstick to create the X-shaped look many are familiar with. The second stick should be at the same angle as the first stick, however, its high end should be on the same side as the first stick's low end, and vice versa.
