Make Custard Pie

The first custard pies were made during the Middle Ages by Ancient Romans. By the late 19th century its popularity and demand rose. Custard pie competitions throughout the U.S. have constantly promoted good tasting pies.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    INGREDIENT LIST
    9 inch unbaked pie crust
    4 eggs fully beaten
    1/3 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon brown sugar
    3/4 cup white sugar
(You may substitute half with splenda)
    1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    1 egg white
    2 1/2 cups scalded milk
    1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    4 drops yellow food coloring(opitional)

  2. Step 2

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit (205 degrees Celcius)

Use a batter to mix eggs, white sugar, brown sugar, salt and vanilla. Blend scalded milk and fully stir. For more yellow coloring, add upto four drops of food coloring.

Make sure pie pan is lined evenly with pastry. Brush egg whites onto the bottom and side of pastry shell. This will help block excess moisture from seeping into pastry.

Evenly pour custard mixture into pie crust, and spread nutmeg on custard.

  3. Step 3

Bake for 25 to 35 minutes. Insert a knife near center of pie, if it comes out clean, the pie is done.
