How to Delete a Variable in SPSS or PASW Statistics


SPSS, also known as PASW Statistics, is a fairly easy piece of software to use. However, it does have some functions that should be simple but take a few steps to complete. One of them concerns how to delete a variable in SPSS.

  • Click on the "Data View" tab at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.

  • Click the column header of the variable to be removed. The entire selected column should turn blue.

  • Keep the mouse cursor in the column header. Right-click and select "Clear" from the context menu that appears. Alternatively, just press the "Delete" key.
