It's 2019 and we still haven't perfected the perfect liquid line. That's traumatic enough as it is, but luckily we can stop by our local Sephora or another makeup retailer to find products that provide a new way to add eyeliner to our eyes. You have pencil liners, liquid liners and gel liners, and all in a wide range of colors to boot.

As if that wasn’t enough, you can turn any of your favorite powdered eye shadows into eyeliner with just a little water. It's like magic, truly. Using a powdered eye shadow in place of more traditional eyeliners gives you a softer, more natural look. Count us in. Keep reading for this step-by-step guide on how to use powered eyeshadow as your new go-to eyeliner.

  1. Choose an eye shadow color to get the look you’re trying to achieve. If you want to make your lashes look fuller and thicker, choose a dark eye shadow that matches the color of your lashes. By choosing a contrasting hue, you will give your eyes a lovely pop of color.
  2. Wet the tip of a thin eyeliner brush so that it's just damp enough to make the color a little more intense. Use a thin, angled brush or a pointed eyeliner brush; make sure the brush is thin to get as close to your lashes as possible.
  3. Dip the tip of the eyeliner brush into the powder eye shadow. Tap the brush to knock off any excess powder.
  4. Place your elbow on the table or counter to steady your hand and apply the damp eye shadow to your upper lash line. Start at the outer corner of your eye and drag the brush in toward the inner corner of your eye, making the line thinner as you move in. Wet the tip of the brush again and repeat the process with the other eye.
  5. Pick up some more color and place the tip of the eyeliner brush at the outer corner of your eye just underneath your lower lashes. Start applying the color on the outer corner of your eye and bring it in about two-thirds of the way along the length of your lower lash line. Stay as close to the lashes as possible.

Tip: Start with a thin line and work your way up to making the line thicker, depending on the look you want. You can always thicken the line, but it’s much harder to thin it out after you’ve applied the color, something that many of us are all too familiar with. Make sure the liner on your lower lash line connects with the eyeliner on your upper lash line at the outer corners. This helps create the natural look you're going for.

That's it. Just a few steps that will hopefully make your eyeliner skills so strong, it can practically be added as a special skill to your resume.
