How to Use Fitness Centers in Physical Education

Since people of many ages belong to fitness centers, the centers are natural locations to teach physical education. The serious athlete, the casual exerciser and the sports-minded high school student are just some of the people that may seek out physical education classes at a fitness center. By being appropriately prepared, you can teach physical education to anyone using the fitness center. You will usually be teaching physical fitness to students sixteen or over who want to learn about the subject matter, so your students will probably be attentive.

        Target Your Audience and Purpose

Identify your intended students and target them because it will be easier to teach students who are at roughly the same level and have similar interests, especially if you are teaching in a group setting. Name the physical fitness class, describe what it will teach, identify the level of difficulty and note whether the class will focus on weigh loss, endurance or building muscle.

        Inspect the Center

Inspect and familiarize yourself with weight machines and equipment. Before teaching physical education in the center, make sure you know how to set each machine and how to demonstrate exercises on it. You should also know the benefits of each machine and any safety concerns.

        Do a Practice Run

Practice teaching at the fitness facility. Make sure that the microphone, acoustics and electronics work properly. Check the number of students signed up for the class. Ensure that there are adequate mats, free weights and other equipment for everyone. Envision the number of students and decide whether the room can accommodate all the students.

        Safety First When Teaching

Make sure students are safe and uninjured. Do a proper warm-up and cool-down. Ensure that students wear proper footwear and that they are properly hydrated. Encourage resting as needed.

        Keep It Interesting

Utilize equipment that students may not have access to at home. Ballet bars, stability balls and weights can enhance activities and provide stimulating workouts by jolting the body in new ways.
