How to Get Rid of Ant Piles
When the ants come marching in, you may feel all hope is lost. Whether it be a home or garden infestation, ants can be incredibly difficult to be rid of and can pose problems for children and pets. To rid your property of an ant infestation, you must locate the source of the problem--the ants' nest. Terminating the ants' habitat can be tricky and often requires harmful chemicals and solutions. Things You'll Need
- Measuring cup
- 6 cups of water
- Large pot
- Pot holders
- One liter of club soda
- Small pail

Boiling Water Method

Locate fire ant pile(s).

Bring 6 cups of water to a rolling boil, and allow the water to boil for five minutes. Use 6 cups of water for each pile that you want to eliminate.

Use potholders to remove pot of boiling water from the stove, and carry it to the ant pile.

Pour the boiling water directly on top of the ant pile. Be sure to saturate the entire ant pile. This treatment will kill the ants nearest to the top of the pile, but may leave ants alive deep under the ground.

Repeat this process three a week for each ant mound. Repeating this treatment frequently will ensure that it reaches the ants that were farther under the ground.
Club Soda Method

Locate fire ant pile(s).

Measure 2 cups of club soda, and pour it into a small pail.

Pour the club soda directly on top of the fire ant mound. The club soda must saturate the entire mound for proper extermination. Saturating the mound will drown the ants.

Repeat this treatment three times daily for one week.

Tips & Warnings
As with any insect infestation the possibility of getting stung or bit, especially during the extermination process. Always use protective gear such as pot holders to remove hot contents from stove. Failure to do so may result in serious injury. Boiling water remedy may temporarily destroy grass. If ant mounds are located in noticeable areas of property, this remedy may not be for you.
