Cement floors are found in many garage and basement areas. They are also becoming popular as a flooring option in other areas of the home as well. Cement is a highly durable element, resistant to most stains and other elements. Cleaning and shining the cement floors requires just a few cleaning ingredients that are most likely already on hand in the home. Good retail products are available, but a homemade solution will have the same result.
Things You'll Need
- Baking soda
- Dish detergent
Pour a gallon of warm water into a cleaning bucket.
Add 1/4 cup of liquid dish detergent to the bucket, which will clean and shine the floors.
Pour in 1 cup of distilled white vinegar, which will disinfectant the cement floors.
Dip a mop in the solution.
Wring out excess water out of the mop.
Clean the floors with the damp mop, focusing especially on areas with heavy residue.
Sprinkle a thick layer of baking soda over any stains that are not removed by the mopping. If necessary, moisten the baking soda with water from a spray bottle. Let it sit for an hour.
Mop over the areas of baking soda once more to collect the baking soda, along with any residue that has been pulled out of the cement.
