How to Make Shampoo With Castile Soap

Instead of subjecting your hair to the numerous chemicals and preservatives contained in many everyday shampoos, some people seek simple shampoos that they make at home with basic ingredients. Liquid castile soap is a natural soap made primarily from pure olive oil. When you use castile soap as the base ingredient for homemade shampoo, the shampoo will be high quality and will cleanse your hair gently and thoroughly.

Things You'll Need

  • Liquid castile soap
  • Water
  • Essential oils (lavender oil, chamomile oil or lemon oil)
  • Vegetable oil
  • 4 Chamomile tea bags
  • Glass measuring cup
  • Whisk
  • Funnel
  • Shampoo bottle

      Make a simple shampoo by pouring equal parts of the liquid castile soap and cool water into the measuring cup. Add 1 tsp. of oil for each cup of liquid ingredients. Mix all of the ingredients well with the whisk. Pour into the shampoo bottle, using the funnel to aid in pouring. Use this shampoo in the normal fashion.

      Mix up a lavender shampoo by measuring 1.5 cups of liquid castile soap into the glass measuring cup. Add at least five drops of lavender oil and mix the ingredients well. Pour into the shampoo bottle and use in the normal fashion.

      Create a chamomile shampoo by brewing the tea bags in 1 cup of hot water. Steep the tea for 20 to 30 minutes and remove them. Cool the water to room temperature and add 4 oz. of liquid castile soap, ½ tsp. of vegetable oil and two to three drops of chamomile oil. Mix the ingredients well and pour into the shampoo bottle. Use the chamomile shampoo in the normal fashion.
