How to Train for Ultrasound Tech Jobs
Health care jobs will always be in demand no matter the economic situation. Ultrasound tech jobs are an example of this demand as more and more health professionals are looking to ultrasound for help in providing noninvasive diagnostic examinations. The training time can be relatively brief compared to other jobs in the field with some programs offering certification in 1 year. However, higher paying ultrasound tech jobs require an associate's or bachelor's degree.

Obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent. Most training programs prefer applicants with some sort of previous experience in other medical professions, but will consider high school graduates who studied mathematics, science, or liberal arts.

Go to the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) website. Go through the list of accredited ultrasound tech training programs in your area and look for one that personally fits you and your schedule. Program options range from 2-year associate's degrees to 4-year bachelor's degrees. Some programs even offer certification in little more than a year.

Complete an ultrasound technician training program. Students must complete training in the classroom as well as 3 to 6 months of clinical training. The clinical training is usually unpaid and completed in a medical setting. Upon completion, graduates will be able to choose from various ultrasound tech opportunities such as abdominal sonography, OB GYN sonography, and mammography.
