How to Walk Like a Male Model in 5 Easy Steps
Walking may be a simple feat in daily life, but when you're wearing awkwardly fitting designer clothes and moving down a narrow runway before thousands of people it becomes a bit more of a challenge. Practicing and perfecting your runway walk can set you apart from other male models and help you earn more prestigious jobs. After all, your audience is filled with potential employers --- designers, photographers and other fashion professionals --- so a killer walk is essential.

1
Maintain good posture and stay loose. Confidence is essential on the runway, and if your muscles tighten up, your walk may look forced and awkward.
-
2
Put one foot in front of the other, arms swinging opposite your legs. Keep moving at a casual pace, similar to how you would walk down the street.
-
3
Keep your feet from crossing in front of you. While it's acceptable for women to "scissor walk," male models should walk without crisscrossing their feet.
-
4
Avoid too much hip action. Your walk should look masculine, and an excess of hip-swinging may over-feminize your stroll.

5
Stop at the end of the runway for a brief pose, then swing one leg behind the other for an easy, smooth turn. Keep your movements fluid as you turn and walk back down the runway.

Tips & Warnings
Don't overthink it. Designer Michael Bastian in a February 2011 "Washington Post" article states that men shouldn't look like they're doing a catwalk strut: above all, they should just look like they're walking.
Remember that your job is to sell clothing, not yourself. A professional male model's runway walk should convey the mood of the clothing he's wearing, be it grungy, casual, formal or athletic. Above all, the model should look like he owns the outfit and feels comfortable in it.
