You'll want to be flexible. If you can stay on a Monday, or Thursday, rather than the weekend, you're going to find out that you can save big. This goes with just about any other hotel stay as well.

Find a hotel that you're interested in, and see if they are offering a "frequent flyer card" of some sort. You will find that if you sign up, you're going to get perks just for staying at the hotel. 99% of the time, these cards are free.

Consider applying for a hotel credit card. Use this card on top of your frequent flyer card, and save big. The more money you spend, the more you'll earn toward a free night.

Before you book your room, call up the hotel, and haggle. A price for the room is never set in stone, and don't let that price fool you. Call up, and see what they can do for you before you hand your card number over.

Consider making a last minute bid on Priceline. If you don't care where you're going to stay, tell Priceline what you want to pay, and see if any hotel will bite on your offer. Don't bid too low, or you'll get what you pay for.
