      Insert your CD and open Max. Before anything else, we need to set some preferences. Go to Max in the Menubar and click Preferences.

      Click the "Formats" tab. This is where you choose the formats Max will output. The options range from FLAC to AIFF and even Ogg. Select MP3 and click the plus button to setup the LAME encoder.

      You need to change the settings to match the picture. Set the Encoder quality to "Custom". Switch the Encoder target to "Quality". You need to make sure your Encoding engine quality is on High and the Stereo mode is set to Default. Move the Quality slider up to 100 and change the Variable bitrate mode to Fast. When you're done, click the "OK" button.

      MP3 will now be listed in the "Configured output formats" list. Our V0 is all set up! Before you close the preferences screen, you can also optionally select another pout format to encode to. Check off the format(s) you want and close the preferences menu.

      Set the Title, Artist, and other information. You can click the "Album Art" button at the top to embed art as well. Finally, the tracks you want to encode or simply click the "Select All" button. When everything is ready, click the "Encode" button in the upper left hand corner.
