How to Edit a Game Type for Halo Trial
The Halo Trial is a PC trial version of the acclaimed first-person shooter, Halo: Combat Evolved. In Halo, you play as Master Chief, fighting sinister alien forces known only as "The Covenant." Because the Halo Trial is not the full version of the game, it does not initially provide the ability to create custom gametypes for online matches. By downloading two additional files, users can create, keep, and use their own custom gametypes without downloading the full version of the game.

Download the following three files: Auto Gametypes (available at planethalo.gamespy.com), ui.map (available at http://www.filefront.com/10511303/UI-Map/), and the Halo Trial. Install the Halo Trial and Auto Gametypes.

Copy the ui.map file to the Halo Trial Maps folder. To do this, right click ui.map, and select copy; open the Halo Trial folder (available in Program Files, under Microsoft Games), and then the maps folder; select paste, and ui.map will be pasted in the file.

Start Halo Trial. There should now be an "Edit Gametypes" option available. Edit game-type to your liking, and press "OK" to save. Exit Halo Trial.

Open Auto Gametypes, and go to File>Add Custom Gametypes to add the saved Halo Trials gametype. The custom gametype will be available under: My Documents\My Games\Halo Trial\savegames. Click "OK."

Restart Halo Trial and create an online multiplayer match. When you reach the game selection screen (CTF or Slayer) press F12 to bring up Auto Gametypes. Select your custom gametype from the dropdown menu and click "Choose."

Switch back to Halo Trial. Select "CTF" (choosing Slayer or "OK" will not load your custom gametype). Set server options as normal, and launch the game. It should be your custom gametype.

Tips & Warnings
This works best when running Halo Trial in a window.
Users must close and restart Halo Trial before loading another custom gametype or starting a new match. If the name of the gametype permanently replaces the CTF gametype option, the game trial must be uninstalled and reinstalled.
