How to Decide on Enchants for Gear in World of Warcraft

You've got the epic gear. You want to be the best on your block. Decisions about gems and enchants can make or break you. Knowledge is power when it comes to making decisions about enchanting your gear. And since every class has different needs and multiple specs, there are no simple answers--it will take a little work on your part to decide on the right enchants for your gear.

Instructions

    • 1

Be familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of your class. Know what stats benefit you and which ones are not helpful. One good way to obtain this knowledge is to visit the World of Warcraft Community site (see Resources) and read some of the posts in your class area.

    • 2

Know what your current stats are and which ones need to be improved. For example, it would be pointless to pay for an enchant to increase your spirit when that stat is useless to you and what you desperately need is more attack power.

    • 3

Get an idea of what others of your class are using for enchants by searching the WoW Heroes site (see Resources). Click the Realm tab. Choose your region and realm. Then choose your class and spec. Pick an armor or weapon slot and then click submit. This feature allows you to see the most popular items and enchants for each spec of each class.

    • 4

Assess the cost. Is it within your budget to pay several hundred more gold for only a small increase to a stat? If you have money to blow, why not take the increase? But if your budget is limited, +8 is just as good as +10.

    • 5

Search the auction hall or find an enchanter to work for you. Availability may affect your choices when all else is said and done.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take your own play style into account when choosing enchants. If something will help you to be more successful the way that you like to play, take it even if it is not the most popular.

  • When searching for enchants at the auction hall, look under "Consumables," and then "Item Enhancement."

  • Be sure to pay enchanters appropriately for their work. Their formulas and materials don't come cheap.
