How to Make a Clothes Rack for a Yard Sale
You've probably been to yard sales and garage sales where big piles of clothing are inconveniently set up on tables or on blankets on the ground. Shoppers rummage through these clothes, and the clothing must be refolded over and over all day long. Some clothes simply don't present well this way, such as dresses, nice blouses, long coats and top brand-name items. Fortunately, it's easy to make a temporary clothes rack for your yard sale.
Things You'll Need
- 2 stepladders
- Rope or clothesline
- Heavy objects such as solid concrete blocks
- Broom
- Duct tape
- 2-by-2 inch lumber

1
Tie a rope or clothesline between two sturdy trees and hang clothing on it.

2
Set up two stepladders. Tie a rope or clothesline between the ladders and hang clothing on it. You can make two hanging areas with this method if you have tall stepladders and shorter items to sell, using one rope at the top and one in the middle. Place a heavy object on the bottom steps of each ladder to weigh them down and prevent them from tipping over, such as solid concrete blocks. Now you can set items for sale on the other ladder steps and on the paint trays as well.

3
Use a pole instead of rope between the ladders. Unscrew the handle from a broom and rest the pole between the ladders. Apply duct tape to the ends of the pole to secure them to the ladder steps or sides.

Set a long 2-by-2 inch piece of lumber on the ladder steps rather than a broomstick. Although lumber is sturdy, you may still need duct tape to make sure it doesn't slip off one step.
