How to Stop Itching with Psoriaias

Psoriasis is a skin condition that can lead to dry and itchy skin. The itching sensation brought about by psoriasis can be extremely aggravating, and while the first reaction is often to scratch the afflicted area, there are other treatments to take which are far more effective in the long term for alleviating the itching sensation.

Instructions

    • 1

Avoid scratching your itchy skin. Scratching provides a temporary reprieve from the itchy sensations that psoriasis can cause, however it can also make the problem worse in the long run.

    • 2

Take daily baths in warm water, remaining in the water for at least fifteen minutes every day. Avoid using soaps with abrasive additives or strong dyes that can make your itching worse. Instead, try to find a mild soap to use in your bath to prevent further inflaming your itchy skin.

    • 3

Keep yourself in cool environments. Warmth and sweating can make your psoriasis spread and make the itching worse. By staying cool, you will make your psoriasis itch less.

    • 4

Wear clothing that is loose fitting and light. Tight clothes can trap your body heat, whereas loose, light clothing will help you to keep the afflicted skin cool to minimize itch.

    • 5

Apply moisturizing lotion to the afflicted areas of skin. The moisturizer helps with the dry skin caused by psoriasis that leads to an itching sensation.

    • 6

Wrap the afflicted areas overnight. Apply a moisturizing lotion to any areas that are red or dry, and then wrap it lightly with plastic wrap. Remove the wrap only upon waking the next morning, then gently rinse off any ointment residue left on the irritated skin as part of your morning bathing routine.

    • 7

Limit your alcohol consumption when treating your psoriasis. Many psoriasis treatments can be negatively affected by using alcoholic beverages during the treatment process.

    • 8

Watch for what actions seem to correlate with outbreaks of psoriasis. Psoriasis outbreaks can be caused by such things as smoking, spending too much time in the sun, or simply being stressed.

    • 9

Consult with a doctor if your itching continues. A doctor can assess your particular case, and recommend a prescription drug that will fight your psoriasis.
