How to Make Doggy Ears

Wearing a costume is a way of becoming someone or something else for a period of time. You can put on a costume and become a superhero, a doctor or even an inanimate object. You can also become a completely different species by putting on a costume. Costumes can be hard to find in stores when it isn't near Halloween. When you want a costume but you can't find one in the store, then you are left to make it yourself. One costume you can make on your own is a dog costume, which won't be complete without a set of dog ears.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug in your hot glue gun and set it on top of a paper plate to warm up.

    • 2

Fold your sheet of brown felt in half width-wise. Measure out a rectangle on your piece of felt that is about 3 inches wide and 6 inches long. Mark the dimensions with the chalk. You don't need to draw the whole rectangle, just make a couple of markings so that you know the length and width.

    • 3

Follow the markings that you just made to draw a floppy dog ear shape, like a long narrow oval or a rectangle with rounded corners, that is roughly 6 inches long and 3 inches wide at one end, while being slightly narrower at the other end.

    • 4

Cut out your dog ear shape, through both layers of your folded felt, so that you now have two felt dog ears.

    • 5

Use your hot glue gun to glue one ear to each side of the headband. You want to glue the narrow end of the ear near the top of the headband, so that when you put it on, the top of the dog ear is about 2 to 3 inches down from the top of your head.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use more than one color of felt to make your dog ears spotted. Just cut round shapes out of a different color of felt and hot glue them to the felt ears.
