How to Cast on Circular Needles
While circular needles are most often used to create circular knitting pieces, which is called knitting in the round, some knitters prefer to use them for all their knitting, even flat pieces. Circular needles are available in a wide variety of lengths, which is useful when working on large knitting projects that have more stitches than can fit on a pair of single-pointed needles. Cast on circular needles the same way you would on single-pointed needles.
Instructions

1
Unwind a piece of yarn at least 8 inches from a ball of yarn and use it to make a slip knot around the left side of the circular needle.
-
2
Hold the left side of the circular needle with the right hand, holding the slip knot down so it doesn't move.
-
-
3
Hold the two tails of yarn from the needle in the left hand.
-
4
Spread the two tails of yarn apart with the thumb and forefinger of the left hand.
-
5
Wrap the needle under the yarn between the thumb and the palm--this is the first loop--and then over the yarn and through on the forefinger and palm, pulling up through the first loop and tight against the needle. Repeat this action for the desired number of cast-on stitches.

Tips & Warnings
Beginners tend to be all thumbs when they first start knitting. This is normal. It takes a while to train your fingers to hold onto the yarn. The good news is everyone has a natural way to hold yarn, even if you don't know it yet.
