How to Insert a Grease Tube in a Grease Gun
Grease is an essential but humble part of any craftsman's workbench. Grease keeps fittings lubricated and reduces friction on moving parts, especially for heavier machines like mower decks and rototillers. Grease is usually applied to fittings through a special gun; tubes of grease are loaded and a trigger-like handle squeezes the grease out of a hose. Swapping fresh grease tubes is a piece of cake. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Remove the empty cartridge from the grease gun. Each gun is designed differently: some use spring-loaded plungers, others use clips to hold the cartridge inside a metal outer tube.
-
2
Open the replacement cartridge according to the manufacturer's instructions. You may need to use a utility blade to open the outer seal on the cartridge.

3
Insert the new cartridge into the grease gun. Align the open end of the cartridge with the open end of the gun, the end that has a hose and fitting attached.
-
4
Secure the tube into the gun. Use clips or arrange a spring-loaded plunger, as necessary, to ensure a proper and tight fit.
-
5
Squeeze enough new grease through the tube to ensure that grease is flowing through the gun.

Tips & Warnings
Pump new grease through the gun if you change the brand or type of grease in the cartridge to ensure that the right grease gets to the right fittings.
Always use safe cutting practices if you use a utility blade to open your replacement tube.
