1
Anchor a length of monofilament to the reel arbor using the Berkley tape tab. Wrap the monofilament around the reel arbor several times. The monofilament is less durable than the Berkley Fireline but prevents the line from slipping.

2
Secure the Berkley Fireline to the monofilament using a blood knot. To tie a blood knot, measure a length of Fireline parallel to the monofilament. Loop the monofilament around the Fireline about six times, then feed the end back under the monofilament at the base of the loop. Repeat this procedure with the Fireline and pull the knot taut.

Secure your hook with a palomar knot. To tie a palomar, feed a loop of line through the eye of your hook. Leave plenty of slack at the end of the knot. Make an overhead knot with the hook in the middle. Feed the hook through the loop at the end of your line and pull the knot taut, using saliva to lubricate the knot.
