How to Paint Flames on a Truck
Tricking out your rig with a custom flame painted on your hood is a bold statement. This used to be a complicated task as most people used standard masking tape to tape off the area to paint. This would result in rolls of wasted tape. Using a mild adhesive paper will save you time and frustration. You may still need the masking tape to help cover the mirror mount or anything the paper could be too big to cover.
Things You'll Need

Painting the Flame
-
1
Cover the area where you want to paint with a mild adhesive backed masking paper. This will consume less rolls than masking tape.
-
2
Draw out the desired flames onto the masking paper. You can also opt to use a stencil and trace the design onto the masking paper.
-
-
3
Cut out the centers of the flame with a razor knife. Score the tape lightly so you do not scratch the truck.
-
4
Peel the center out with your fingers. Use your razor to cut off any area not effectively scored. Do not attempt to tear it out as you will ruin the design.
-
5
Ensure the entire area is covered with the exception of the exposed metal. This will prevent overspray from getting on the vehicle.
-
6
Paint the exposed metal. Cover the entire exposed surface with a coat of paint.
-
7
Allow the paint to dry. The paint will take a few hours to dry. Do a test by feeling the paint. If it feels tacky to the touch then it has not properly dried.
-
8
Peel the tape off the body when the paint is dry. Peel the tape with your fingers. Stop peeling if you notice the paint has not properly dried.

Tips & Warnings
Paint in warm weather. Painting in humid weather will prolong the drying of the paint and could result in runs in the paint.
Do not attempt to paint without decent circulation. The fumes from the paint can be hazardous to your health.
