How to Troubleshoot a Panasonic Massage Chair

Panasonic massage chairs, which have been made for over 35 years, have multiple pre-programmed massage actions. Deep neck- and shoulder-massage programs can simulate the movements of a rotating wrist. The chairs accurately simulate stroking with the palm of the hand and pressing with the heel of the hand, as in massage therapy. Occasionally, however, these chairs can act up. When they do, some troubleshooting is in order.

Instructions

    • 1

Try simple solutions first. Make sure the chair is plugged in and switched on. Did you press a pre-program button or the Manual Operation button after powering on the chair? If not, do so. The buttons are on the controller and are marked "pre-programs." Flip the cover on the controller to get to the "Manual" buttons.

    • 2

Turn off the power switch, wait 10 seconds, and turn the chair power on again if the massage heads stop moving. This can be caused by excessive force being applied to the massage heads during operation.

    • 3

If parts won't return to their original position, check the time indicator on the controller. The chair may still be in a program. Press the power button twice in rapid succession to get the backrest to go to its upright position. If the leg rest won't go back to its original position, retract it to its original length by pulling the leg-rest slide lever and then pressing the power button twice.

    • 4

If the chair won't recline or the leg rest can't be raised or lowered, check for obstacles. The chair will automatically stop for safety reasons if it encounters an obstacle. Remove obstructions and switch the power off. Wait 10 seconds and turn it back on again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ignore weird noises in the chair, as they are normal. Grinding, straining, hissing, creaking, rattling, rotating and humming are all normal if they come from the chair and not you.

  • It is normal for the height of the left and right massage heads to be at different levels during the "tapping" massage action.
