How to Make Artificial Roses

- Spool of No. 9 (1½-inch-wide) wire-edged ribbon in red, white, pink or yellow
- Spool of No. 9 (1½-inch-wide) wire-edged ribbon in green
- Wire cutters
- Craft wire
- Floral wire
- Floral tape
- Scissors

Cut 22 inches of No. 9 wire-edged ribbon for each ribbon rose needed.

Knot one end of each length of ribbon.

Pull the wire out of the ribbon at the opposite end from the knot. Gently slide the ribbon down the wire toward the knot so that it gathers loosely, and curls naturally.

Hold the knotted end in one hand and spiral the ribbon with the other hand, tightly at first, to create the "bud," then more loosely so that the ribbon flares out to form an open rose shape.

Fold the raw edge down so that it meets the gathered edge and wrap craft wire around the knot to secure it and the free end. Cut the excess wire off and arrange the rose petals as needed.

Cut one 3-inch strip of No. 9 green ribbon for each rose leaf and fold each end of the leaf toward the center.

Fold each side of the leaf toward the center to form a point. Gather the bottom end of each leaf and use craft wire to secure it.

Cut a piece of floral wire to the desired length for each stem. Secure a ribbon rose and one or two leaves to each stem, wrapping the floral wire with the florist tape to cover any exposed wire.
