A cardboard wishing well is a delightful addition to a baby shower, birthday party or other special event for children or adults. Guests write down their wish for the guest of honor on a piece of paper and place it inside. Guests can either have their wish remain anonymous or sign their names. After the party is over, the guest of honor reads the wishes left for them at their leisure. In addition, each of the wishes can be made into a scrapbook for revisiting later on.
Things You'll Need
- Cardboard box or container with a lid or top (at least 1 foot high, 1 foot wide and 1 foot deep)
- Construction paper or wrapping paper
- Cutout letters (if desired)
- 3-by-5 index cards (one per guest)
- Markers (in color desired)
Find a cardboard box with a corresponding lid or top. The box should be at least 1 foot wide, 1 foot long and 1 foot deep.
Cut a small hole about 2 inches wide and 3 inches long on the top or lid of the box. This will be where guests drop their wish in the box.
Locate construction paper or wrapping paper to match your party's theme. Wrap the entire box and its lid or top with the paper you have chosen and secure with glue. Be sure to leave the cut out on top for people to insert their wishes.
Glue decorations to the outside of the box. Decorate it with various cutout designs in construction paper of various colors, or draw various images on your own with markers---such as a baby rattle, pacifier, birthday candle or even photos of the party's guest of honor.
Place the wishing well in a prominent place at your event, and leave a 3-by-5 index card with each guest for them to write down their wish. Make an announcement during the party to instruct people on what to do.
Collect all the wishes placed in the wishing well after the party and allow the guest to read them. In addition, you could place them inside a scrapbook or notebook for convenient later reading.
