How to Remove the Dark Ring Around the Toilet Bowl
The toilet in your bathroom can contain a dark, black ring around the inside of the bowl that is tough to clean. This can be embarrassing when guests visit your home, or give you a feeling that your toilet is harboring bacteria and not clean. When household cleaning products are not working to remove the ring, a cost effective alternative may be the answer. A pumice stone, when used correctly, can help remove the toilet bowl ring. Purchase a pumice stone from a hardware store. A pumice stone will be easier to use in a toilet if you purchase the type that has a handle attached.

Put on rubber gloves and dip the pumice stone in clean toilet bowl water. Ensure that the pumice stone is completely wet.

Scrub the black ring with the pumice stone until the ring has disappeared. Keep the pumice stone completely wet while scrubbing to prevent scratching the toilet.

Flush the toilet when finished to rinse the bowl of any debris that may be left from scrubbing.

Tips & Warnings
Use the addition of a toilet bowl cleaner to loosen any remnants of the ring that may be left after using the pumice stone. Then use the pumice stone again after the cleaner to completely remove the ring.
Pumice stones will scratch porcelain if the stone is not wet at all times when being used.
