Instructions

  1. Hang garden lanterns

    • 1

Use the ladder if necessary to reach the ceiling of your covered patio or gazebo as you measure the length of string lights you will need. Fasten the string lights inside the roof beam with a nail-In wire clip every 3 to 4 feet apart. Put the wire about 1 to 2 inches from the bottom of the beam. You can choose to straighten the string or let it swag. Do this as you work your way around the patio. Leave enough length of lights to reach the electrical outlet, or extension cord.

    • 2

Hang S hooks or ornament hooks evenly along the string of lights. After you've tied clear mono-filament fishing line of different lengths to the top of each lantern, suspend the lanterns from the hooks around the patio.

    • 3

Add votive candles to your lanterns and light with a utility lighter. Plug the string lights into an electrical outlet or extension cord.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use S hooks to hang lanterns in trees. Bend the hook so the lantern won't slip off in the wind.

  • Decorate clear lanterns with colors of fabric, paper, ribbon, or beads.

  • Hang lanterns on shepherd hooks in the garden or along a path.

  • Suspend lanterns from an eye screw, or tack lightweight lanterns to the wood ceiling of a gazebo or covered patio.

  • Use glow sticks or battery operated LED lights if there is no electrical outlet in your garden.

  • Lanterns can be grouped for more light.

  • Hang lanterns a safe distance from leaves and cloth.

  • Never use candles in a paper lantern.

  • Put out flames when the lanterns are unattended.

  • Watch the lanterns closely on a windy day. A lantern can fall and start a fire.

  • Glass lanterns become very hot. Allow to cool before handling.

  • Keep hot and breakable lanterns out of the reach of children.
