      Heated / Cold Wraps
Home wraps can be applied at room temperature or as hot or cold treatments. When selecting your aromatherapy scents keep the intended temperature in mind. To heat wrap, place it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Be careful not to overheat. For cold wraps simply store in the freezer. Wrap will be ready to use when pulled out.

      Choosing the Scent:
Purchase and use only natural aromatherapy oils. Typically these will have been distilled from a plant source. Find them in the health-and-beauty section of nutrition or drug stores. You can also purchase them online. Essential oil choices either relax or invigorate; choose accordingly. Peppermint is often used for invigoration while lavender and chamomile scents both calm. Other favorite choices include cassia, pink grapefruit, sandalwood, anise star, geranium, tangerine, pine, patchouli, myrrh, myrtle and hyssop. Use oils that please your senses for an effective wrap.

      Renewing the Scent:
Aromatherapy wraps often have built-in pockets. These wraps are the easiest to work with. To refresh the scent in a pocketed wrap you must re-stuff the pockets. To do so assemble clean cotton gauze squares, essential oils, and a small glass bowl with a lid or cover. Fill the bowl with the oils. Add just enough to cover gauze squares and immerse clean gauze pads. Cover and let soak overnight. Remove and allow to air dry. When pads are dry, open wrap pockets. Remove old scent and add new scented gauze pads. Reseal pockets. Do this anytime you notice the fragrance fading in your wrap.

When there are no visible pockets, you must open a seam of your wrap and add additional fragrance. Do this by mixing dried aromatic leaves, such as lavender, rose petals or cloves, with the filling you find inside the wrap. This filling will often be made from rice, beans or flax seeds. Then reseal wrap seam.

      Benefits:
Benefits of an at-home aromatherapy wrap include a deep level of relaxation, a reduction in health-related problems, stress release, comfort and relief from muscle and joint pain caused by arthritis. Essential oils used in wraps are also referred to as volatile oils. These oils promote deep relaxation and, depending upon which oils are selected, have various healing effects.

Good aromatherapy wraps can also be enjoyed with friends at home. Brew some herbal tea, play relaxing music, light an aromatherapy candle, dim your lights and enjoy the soothing benefits of an at-home spa day. The scent of the wraps envelops everyone in a soothing, calming atmosphere. At-home wraps are ideal for relaxing with friends without the stress of driving to a spa, checking in, and being faced with a stress-producing charge at the end of your visit.

      Cautions:
When heating your wrap in the microwave, it only takes a few seconds, about 30 at most. Test the wrap's temperature before applying it to any part of your body. Do not overheat; you do not want to burn your skin. Overheating also spoils the scent within your wrap, sometimes creating a bad smell.
