How to Build a Football Target

A football target is an invaluable teaching tool for aspiring quarterbacks as well as seasoned veterans looking to practice alone. A football target provides a visual device for quarterbacks to aim and successfully hit with a football. Targets can help improve accuracy and arm strength.

Things You'll Need

• Fathead poster
• Construction paper

Instructions

1. Purchase a Fathead poster. Fathead posters are posters of professional athletes made in real-life sizes. That means you could purchase a Fathead poster of Reggie Bush and it would be around 6 feet tall. Fathead posters are recommended because they represent a target the size of an actual player.

2. Purchase a piece of plywood, about 7 ft x 6 ft. You'll paste the Fathead poster to the plywood so it does not rip when the football hits the poster. Invest in a super-duty, professional grade adhesive so the poster sticks to the plywood for a long time. Traditional glue will not do the trick.

3. Create a bull's-eye target that is just a little bigger than two hands next to each other and opened as if ready to receive a pass. Use a yellow outer ring, an orange middle ring and a red bull's-eye. Paste this bull's-eye on the chest of the player ("right between the numbers"). Create another bull's-eye target and place this one by the player's hands. This gives you a couple of options for target practice.

4. Set the target up against a wall of a building or build a support stand. You can now stand at different lengths away from the target and work on your accuracy.
