Gather as much data about your relatives as you can before you start to enter it.

Navigate to a website that offers an online family tree generator, such as "Ancestry.com," "Geni.com" or "PBS.com" (See References).

Begin by typing in your basic information such as your first and last name and your gender before clicking on "Start your tree."

Add information about your relatives in the provided family tree boxes.

Use the hints icon when it appears next to a relative's name to view more information about that relative that the website has located, including other possible ancestors.

Search the site's records collection for possible ancestors; search by first name, last name, keyword, area of living, nationality and many other factors and click on "Add to tree" to add any matches to your family tree.

Search for additional details to add to your family tree outside the online tree generator website by consulting records-search websites, such as "FamilySearch.org" and "Archives.gov." Search these websites beginning with any information you know, such as your family's surname until you find other leads on other ancestors you can add to your family tree.

Click on the print icon located at the top of the screen to print your family tree.
