So, the children moved out and went to college and you like your home and want to luxuriate in all the space, but what should you do with all those extra rooms? One way to redecorate is to create a music room. The advantage of a music room is it allows you the space to be free to make noise and express yourself with ease without disturbing others.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Select Chairs for Your Music Room in Your Empty Nest Syndrome Home

Music rooms should have chairs that allow you to rest your instrument on your shoulder or lap with ease. Additional chairs are wonderful in case someone wants to listen to your practice and play. A piano bench that also holds music can save space. Be sure to have good cushions and back support for your music room chair.

  2. Step 2

Select Musical Instruments for Your Music Room in Your Empty Nest Syndrome Home

We collect musical instruments while we travel. A collection of drums, rattles and pipes can encourage young visitors like grandchildren to play along. It also helps build your understanding of how to read music.

  3. Step 3

Select a Room Behind A Door or Away From Others for Your Music Room in Your Empty Nest Syndrome Home

A door that closes and extra air space between the room and other rooms can help dampen noise. If you're recording your music, you need extra quiet from the rest of the house.

  4. Step 4

Select Music and Books About Music for Your Music Room in Your Empty Nest Syndrome Home

Pick a selection of music from your favorite eras. Pick songs that you like to sing and pieces that showcase your talent. Pick books about music that will make people ask about them. Have a book shelf, use your chair, or have a sheet music holder.

  5. Step 5

Select Good Lighting for Your Music Room in Your Empty Nest Syndrome Home

Lighting is important in a music room. Choose a dial light switch to allow yourself to set the mood before you start playing. Have a lamp that sits over the keyboard and floor lamps that you can set by the chairs.

  6. Step 6

Select Music Theme Pictures for Your Music Room in Your Empty Nest Syndrome Home

Music comes in many forms. Dance, the rippling brook, elegant snapshots of violins or a picture of Apollo can inspire the best music to come out of your soul.

  7. Step 7

Select Paint for Your Music Room in Your Empty Nest Syndrome Home

Choose warm colors that match the wood tone of the musical instruments. Pick a musical theme like jazz or reggae to add colorful spots.
