There is not much that is better for a summer afternoon barbecue than a stack of mouthwatering ribs. If you don't have access to a barbecue, you may think that accomplishing this dish is impossible, but it isn't. All you need is a crock pot, some barbecue sauce, onions, garlic and, of course, the ribs. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 5 to 6 qt. crock pot or slow cooker
  • 2 racks of pork ribs
  • Barbecue sauce
  • 2 onions
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • Water

Instructions

    • 1

      Slice onions and layer half of the slices in the bottom of the crock pot. Mince garlic and set aside.

      Cut ribs in between the bones so that each bone has some meat on both sides. Arrange the ribs in the crock pot on top of the layer of onions. Sprinkle the minced garlic on top of the ribs.

      Cover the ribs with the barbecue sauce. Layer the other half of the onion slices on top. Add 1 inch of water to the bottom of the crock pot.

      Cook on low heat for six to eight hours.

      Serve the ribs with corn on the cob and rice.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to add some heat to the recipe, try adding some cayenne pepper or chili powder to the crock pot when you are adding the garlic.

  • Don't lift the lid of the crock pot during the cooking. This will increase the required cooking time greatly.
