Unwanted calls can sometimes be hard if not impossible to stop. You can identify most of these unwanted calls because they show up on your caller ID as an "unknown caller," or "private." Sometimes we answer them for fear of missing an important call or because many of us have a few friends and family who like to be kept a secret when they make their calls so they block their number. Have you thought about stopping those kind of calls from coming in...now you can have those calls temporarily suspended, making it more of a challenge to get in contact with you again.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Prevent Unwanted Cell Phone Calls
Avoid giving your cell phone number to businesses unless they need to call you for repairs or service. Many companies sell your information to other businesses. Place your cell phone number on the "Do Not Call" list at donotcall.gov. This can help reduce the number of calls from telemarketers and survey companies.

  2. Step 2

    Contact Your Service Provider
Your cell phone service provider may be able to help you if you are receiving excessive spam. They can stop text messaging by adding the company to a "block list" and even reverse any charges. Most of the new smart phones such as the Blackberry and iPhone contain special features that allow you to block unwanted calls.

  3. Step 3

    Stop Harassing Calls
Become familiar with your cell service provider's safety features. This information is easily found on the company's website. It is very important that you are aware of and know how to turn on the protective features provided by

  4. Step 4

    Use a Dialing Code
If your cell phone service is with Time Warner or Vonage you are provided a code that you can dial from your cell phone to block certain numbers from calling. You can dial "77" and wait to hear the confirmation that all unknown and anonymous calls are blocked. Code "87" turns this service off. These codes don't work with all service providers so contact your cell phone service provider to determine if they offer a similar code system.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are receiving threatening calls from someone you know or don't know, notify the police and your cell phone company immediately.
  • Keep a record of the date, time, and what was said. You may end up having to change your phone number to get rid of harassing calls.
