How to Restring a Badminton Racquet

Instructions

    • 1

Observe the stringing pattern currently in your badminton racquet before you remove the old strings. You will want to emulate it exactly with the new strings after you remove the old. Take a close up digital picture of the current badminton racquet string pattern. Use this as a reference for when you start restringing. Remove the old string in the racquet.

    • 2

Secure the badminton racquet into the stringing machine. This places even pressure on all sides of the racquet. Also, you need the badminton racquet to be secured because you will be working with tools like pliers and scissors. You will be pulling string through the racquet tightly and need the racquet to be solid and secure in order to string the badminton racquet properly.

    • 3

String the new string into the racquet, being sure to follow the previous stringing pattern. Begin threading through the grommets with the strings that go up and down. Then continue with the cross strings. Be sure to use enough tension, otherwise the birdie could go right through the racquet. Use pliers to tighten the knots on the outside of the racquet and don't forget to trim the edges off of any long string.

    • 4

Thread the string tension tester onto the racquet strings and tighten the adjustment knob until you get a tension reading. Most strings are recommended for around 30lbs. maximum tension so you would want your strings to be around 28lbs. of tension.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that you look at the stringing pattern on the current racquet. All manufacturers use different patterns and the stringing process could become a frustrating guessing game.
