How to Sew a Diaper Clutch
Carrying a huge diaper bag everywhere you go is very cumbersome, especially along with the baby, too. Lighten your load by carrying only a diaper clutch. This clutch holds a diaper or two and a small package of wipes. This can easily fit into your purse, the car seat or the stroller to reduce the luggage you have to carry around when you have a small child.

1
Choose two fabrics that coordinate with each other to use for the inside and the outside of the diaper clutch. Cut two pieces from the outside fabric, one piece measuring 9 inches by 11 inches and another piece measuring 9 inches by 14 inches. Do the same with the lining fabric, so you have four pieces total.
-
2
Cut one piece of batting that measures 9 inches by 25 inches.

3
Lay out the smaller lining piece and the larger outside piece with right sides up. Arrange the two pieces of the snap in the middle of both pieces of fabric. Install the snap.
-
4
Layer the matching pieces of fabric, with right sides together so that the bottom edges match up. Use pins to hold the fabric in place. Sew across the bottom of the outside fabric and the lining fabric, removing the pins as you sew.
-
5
Open up the lining piece of fabric. Pin the batting to the back of the lining fabric. Sew around the edges to keep the batting in place. Sew with the batting side down to keep the presser foot of your sewing machine clear of the batting fibers, preventing entanglement. (Sewing the batting to the lining fabric first helps to hold it securely and stand up to a lot of use.)
-
6
Pin the outside and the lining fabrics with right sides together and matching up all the raw edges. Do not pin the top flap part.
-
7
Sew around three pinned sides. Trim the raw edges to within ½ inch of the sewn seam. Make sure to sew with the batting facing down to prevent the presser foot from getting tangled in the batting. Turn the clutch right side out.
-
8
Fold the edges of the flap inside and pin in place. Sew across the edge of the flap to complete the project.

Tips & Warnings
Another closure idea for your diaper clutch is a piece of hook and loop tape. Do not buy the sticky kind. Buy the type used in sewing.
